Osasuna vs Real Sociedad Preview

Osasuna and Real Sociedad kick off matchday 32 in LaLiga with the games coming thick and fast for all sides in the Spanish top flight right now. This is not only a derby clash but a chance for both teams to further their respective European ambitions.

Back-to-back victories have propelled Osasuna up to 8th place, just one shy of a European position. They won an entertaining clash with Real Betis 3-2 last weekend and then, despite heavy rotation at Cadiz on Tuesday night, they left the Nuevo Mirandilla with three points courtesy of Ruben Garcia’s 62nd minute strike.

It wasn’t quite the perfect evening for Jagoba Arrasate though as key centre-back David Garcia broke his nose after coming on, ruling him out of this game and raising questions about his availability for next weekend’s Copa del Rey Final. Abde Ez was another left on the bench in Cadiz, but he came on in the closing stages, only to be shown a red card just two minutes after his introduction, ensuring the electric winger is suspended here.

Imanol also opted to rest some regulars, despite the importance of their showdown with fellow top four hopefuls Real Betis last time out. Mikel Merino and David Silva both only featured off the bench but La Real competed well and ground out a 0-0 draw which maintains their status as the strong favourites to clinch 4th place and a crack at next season’s Champions League.

The job is by no means complete though with Real Sociedad still to play all of the top three sides. However with little really at stake for those clubs, they may fancy their chances of upsetting at least one of the big guns. They are in reasonably good shape selection wise currently with only one or two long-term absentees on the sidelines and we should see a competitive game with both sides in a position to bring some fresh legs in after their respective matches on Tuesday.
