Manchester City loanee Issa Kaboré’s second season in Ligue 1, this time at Marseille, has been somewhat less conclusive than his impressive campaign with Troyes the previous year.
The Burkina Faso international initially struggled for playing time, which has nevertheless picked up in the second half of the season – he is now on 18 Ligue 1 appearances, scoring once during that time. Foot Mercato indicate this afternoon that Les Phocéens will not trigger the permanent clause in the full-back’s contract, with the €20m option being considered too high by the club’s management.
Although the 21-year-old had spoken of his desire to remain at Marseille earlier this season, he will now return to the Premier League champions this summer. He has yet to make an appearance for Manchester City, having been bought from Mechelen and then immediately loaned out to Troyes, who are part of the City Football Group network. He had been a regular starter during his season with the Aube outfit.
