Stade de Reims manager Will Still has revealed that his future at the Ligue 1 club will be decided by the end of the month during an interview with L’Union.
Still, a manager of British-Belgian descent, went on a 17-game unbeaten run as manager of Reims, having taken over from Oscar Garcia earlier in the season. That run was brought to an end by Olympique de Marseille in late March. However, Reims are still 11th in Ligue 1, whilst many had anticipated that they’d be embroiled in a relegation battle.
However, Still is aiming higher. “I am super competitive and I want Stade de Reims to challenge the sides that play in Europe,” he said. His statement comes at a time when his future at the French club is yet to be decided. However, as the Englishman revealed, more will be known about his future soon.
“The conversations that we’re having with [the management] are really interesting. We’re talking about players that will come in, those that will leave, the salary, the working conditions. It will be sorted before June,” said Still. The club’s hierarchy have expressed “clearly” that they want to keep Still at the club.
Much has been made of the €25,000 fine paid each match by Still, but that won’t be the case next season, with the manager in the process of obtaining his degree.
Still is a West Ham United fan, and Foot Mercato have previously been linked with a move for the Reims manager, however, asked if he would still be at the Ligue 1 club next season, he joked, “Unless Real Madrid come knocking at my door…” Still therefore looks like remaining in the Champagne region next season.
