In this weekly feature, hosts of the Gegenpressing podcast Stefan Bienkowski and Manu Veth face off with their predictions for the forthcoming Bundesliga matchday fixtures. It’s three points for a correct score and one point for a correct result. Who will come out on top at the end of the season?

Manu’s Game of the Week: Bayer Leverkusen vs FC Köln

My match of the week is the Rheinderby between Leverkusen and Köln. Although, Köln fans will probably only claim for this to be a derby if they win it. And in fairness, their rivalry with Gladbach goes further back. That, however, ignores the fact that of the three “Rhein” teams Leverkusen have been the most successful in recent decades. Important to note, this game will take place on Friday to help Leverkusen with their Europa League semi-finals against Roma—Köln fans were unhappy about this as well, of course, after all it is difficult to make that 20 minute S-Bahn journey to the suburb.

Manu’s Predictions:

  • Bayer Leverkusen 2-0 Köln
  • Mainz 2-2 Schalke
  • Freiburg 0-3 RB Leipzig
  • Hoffenheim 0-2 Eintracht Frankfurt
  • Borussia Mönchengladbach 1-1 Bochum
  • Augsburg 1-2 Union Berlin
  • Hertha Berlin 0-2 Stuttgart
  • Werder Bremen 1-2 Bayern Munich
  • Borussia Dortmund 2-1 Wolfsburg

Stefan’s Game of the Week: Borussia Dortmund vs Wolfsburg

My game of the week is Dortmund v Wolfsburg. Edin Terzic’s side have relied on their stellar home form to mount this season’s surprise title challenge, but on Sunday they’ll be up against an impressive Wolfsburg side that have won both of their last two games with goals to spare. BVB should still edge this contest, but I’m hoping for an entertaining clash to round up another excellent Bundesliga matchday.

Stefan’s Predictions:

  • Bayer Leverkusen 2-1 FC Köln
  • Mainz 1-1 Schalke
  • Augsburg 1-2 Union Berlin
  • Borussia Mönchengladbach 2-0 Bochum
  • Freiburg 1-1 RB Leipzig
  • Hertha Berlin 0-2 Stuttgart
  • Hoffenheim 1-1 Eintracht Frankfurt
  • Werder Bremen 0-2 Bayern Munich
  • Borussia Dortmund 3-2 Wolfsburg

Scores after MD30: Manu – 177, Stefan – 160.
