AS Monaco are on a poor run of form after back-to-back losses against Lens and Montpellier, during which they have conceded seven goals without reply. However, manager Philippe Clement has said that he still feels the support of the Principality club’s president, Dmitry Rybolovlev.
Despite a crisis meeting at Monaco on Monday, in the wake of a 4-0 loss at home to Montpellier, Clement’s position at the club isn’t thought to be under threat, at least in the short term. Speaking in a press conference, attended by Get French Football News, ahead of a trip to face SCO Angers on Sunday, Clement revealed that he has had a meeting with Rybolovlev in the last week, but that conversation centred around the upcoming transfer window.
“We had a meeting about transfers for next season. We are all disappointed about the last two games because we were in the fight for second place, and we have lost twice in a way that is far from our idea of what is a good performance. But I’ve always felt the president’s support. I haven’t felt anything else,” said Clement.
Questioned by GFFN’s Luke Entwistle about whether the club may look to bring some more experienced elements to balance the club’s youthful approach, the Belgian manager replied, “It’s true to everyone that it’s good to have good leadership profiles. Lots of other clubs think so too, and that could help the young players.”
