Premier League predictions: Week 35

The 2022/23 Premier League season is nearing its conclusion and it’s full steam ahead at the top and bottom of the table.

Manchester City have finally reeled in Arsenal after weeks and weeks off putting on the pressure, cobbling together nine successive victories to pull a point clear with a game in hand.

Newcastle now look to be shoo-ins for Champions League qualification after winning eight of their last nine games, with Manchester United currently in possession of fourth ahead of Liverpool, who have improved in recent weeks, and Brighton & Hove Albion, who continue to get results with their entertaining brand of football.

Things are not so rosey for Southampton at the other end of the table and it’s also been difficult viewing of late for supporters of Everton, Leeds, Nottingham Forest, Leicester and West Ham – they are all still bang in trouble and could go down unless they pull their respective fingers out.

Tottenham, Aston Villa and even Brentford still harbour Europa League aspirations, but for Fulham, Crystal Palace, Bournemouth, Wolves and £550m+ spenders Chelsea it’s prize money and the best possible at stake.

Week 35 of the season is a little disjointed because of the coronation of King Charles III – fixtures are spread across Saturday, Sunday and Monday, the latter of which is a special bank holiday for us all to enjoy.

Bournemouth’s clash with Chelsea is one of four 3pm kick-offs on Saturday afternoon and the latest opportunity for Frank Lampard to break his points duck after returning to the club in a caretaker capacity. But against a Cherries side coming into form at the right time of the season, 90min predicts Lamps could come unstuck again and leave empty handed.

There should also be no fairytale start to Sam Allardyce’s bid to keep Leeds afloat – a trip to title chasing City potentially leading to a 3-0 defeat at best. Aston Villa could get one over Midlands rivals Wolves at Molineux, while expect goals galore as Tottenham, who are either brilliant or absolute tosh, take on Crystal Palace.

Liverpool’s meeting with Brentford is the day’s late game and it could be a tight affair, though you’d be brave to go against Jurgen Klopp’s side right now in terms of picking out the result.

Sunday’s action is limited to just two games but they could actually be two of the best games of the weekend.

Newcastle are in scintillating form and have goal machines Callum Wilson and Alexander Isak chomping at the bit, while Arsenal simply cannot afford to drop anymore points if they want to win a first Premier League title in 19 years. Whether or not Mikel Arteta’s side can do that remains to be seen in 90min’s eyes.

Manchester United visit West Ham in an oddly timed 7pm game on Sunday, and the home side’s indifferent record against ‘big six’ opposition could see them fall to another unwanted defeat.

Monday’s action, meanwhile. is predicted to deliver three home wins, with a huge boost heading Nottingham Forest’s way if they beat Southampton at The City Ground. That’s because Leicester are tipped to go down to mid-table Fulham and Everton, really struggling for consistency under Sean Dyche, are up against it at high-flying Brighton.
