Having been suspended over an authorised trip to Saudi Arabia at the start of last week, Lionel Messi’s future at Paris Saint-Germain looks increasingly in doubt, with his contract expiring at the end of the campaign and no indication of an extension to come for the time being.
Beyond his role as the country’s tourism ambassador, Messi has been linked with a move to the Gulf state, amid interest from Inter Miami and from his former club Barcelona as well. A lucrative free transfer to Al Hilal is being seen as the opportunity for the World Cup winner to face off against Cristiano Ronaldo one more time. The Portuguese striker moved to domestic rivals Al Nassr midway through the campaign, after leaving Manchester United.
According to French journalist Mohamed Bouhafsi, the Saudi Arabian outfit have made offers to Blaugrana veterans Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets, as well as PSG’s own Marco Verratti, in order to convince the Argentine to make the move. Despite recently signing a contract extension, the Italian midfielder is said to be considering his future as well, following a campaign of middling performances.
