Lionel Messi’s father says PSG forward “has no agreement with any club.”

Lionel Messi’s (35) father, Jorge Messi, has taken to Instagram to deny that the Paris Saint-Germain forward has an agreement in place to join any club next season.

On Tuesday, Messi trained for the first time with his teammates at the Camp des Loges after his two-week suspension for an unsanctioned trip to Saudi Arabia was lifted. However, despite his reintegration, and an apology which has facilitated a rapprochement between the player and the club, Messi is still expected to depart this summer.

AFP reported earlier on Tuesday that Messi’s move to the Saudi Arabian top-flight was “a done deal,” whilst L’Équipe added that whilst nothing was signed, a verbal agreement between a Saudi team and the former Barcelona forward did exist. Contacted by Get French Football News, Messi’s entourage denied an agreement of any kind with a Saudi club.

Messi’s father has now clarified the situation in a social media post, transcribed by L’Équipe, saying that his son has no agreement with any club, adding that a decision will be made at the end of the season. Jorge Messi’s message reads as follows:

“There is absolutely nothing with any club for next year. Absolutely no decision will be taken until Lionel finishes the French League with PSG. Once the season is finished, it will be time to analyse what is happening and to take a decision. There are always rumours, and many use Lionel’s name to gain notoriety, but there is only one truth, and we can ensure you that there is nothing with no one. Neither verbal, nor signed, nor agreed, and there won’t be until the season is finished”

“For me, the fact that there are people that lie in a deliberate and conscious manner, without bringing forward a shred of proof to back up their statements, and who want to turn every ill-intentioned, or self-interested rumour into news, is lacking respect for the media they work for. They may have to explain why their news isn’t confirmed… they won’t want the truth to ruin their ‘news’.”
