Nottingham Forest’s fixtures compared to Everton, Leeds & Leicester after Southampton win

It was a wonderful weekend for Nottingham Forest supporters, who went out and secured a huge three 4-3 win against against Southampton off the back of the coronation of King Charles III.

The clash at The City Ground was the final game of an eventful three days which saw a boat load of goals pile in on bank holiday Monday.

Back-to-back home triumphs have seen Forest leap up to 16th in the table and two points clear of the drop zone after Leicester were thumped 5-3 by Fulham. While there’s still plenty of work for Cooper and his side to do, Monday’s results massively bolstered their chances of survival.

Here’s how Forest’s final league fixtures compare to relegation rivals Everton, Leeds and Leicester.

Claiming victory on Monday night was imperative for Nottingham Forest because they’ve got a couple of tricky games left on their schedule.

Their remaining bout on home turf comes against Arsenal, who’ll likely still be in title contention and desperate for three points. Before that, though, Forest visit a Chelsea side that secured a rare victory away at Bournemouth.

Frank Lampard’s team had long looked inept, but their victory on the south coast could inspire a bit of confidence heading into their final few games of the season.

Forest’s season then concludes away from home at Selhurst Park with Crystal Palace playing host. The Eagles have purred under Roy Hodgson, but they will not be playing for anything on the final day which should play into the visitors’ hands should they still be in survival mode.

Everton supporters also enjoyed their bank holiday Monday as the Toffees produced one of the most stunning results of the season away at Brighton. Nobody foreshadowed a 5-1 triumph over Roberto De Zerbi’s European football chasers.

That win thrust them out of the relegation zone, and Sean Dyche will now be feeling confident of steering his side to safety. Goodison Park will be rocking for Manchester City’s visit on Sunday, although the Toffees will not be expected to snatch anything against the league leaders.

After that, though, Everton conclude the season with two winnable games against Wolves and Bournemouth. There’s no way the Goodison Park faithful will let their side succumb to the drop on the final day.

Fixture

13/05/23 – 12:30

21/05/23 – 13:30

West Ham vs Leeds

28/05/23 – 16:30

Leeds vs Tottenham

Big Sam was hired to pull off a mini-miracle because Leeds’ run-in is far from plain-sailing. Allardyce would’ve taken some solace from his side’s performance at Man City on Saturday after they found themselves 2-0 down in the first half.

A late Rodrigo goal inspired hope, but there was no dramatic turnaround.

Up next for Leeds is a home game against Newcastle who were caught cold by Arsenal at the weekend. The Magpies still need points to make sure of their top-four status with Liverpool lurking.

A visit to West Ham on the penultimate matchday has to now be regarded as a must-win before they host Tottenham on the final day. Spurs have discovered some momentum under Ryan Mason, and they’ll likely be playing for a European berth of some sort on the final day.

Leicester vs Liverpool

22/05/23 – 20:00

Newcastle vs Leicester

28/05/23 – 16:30

Leicester vs West Ham

It’s been a bleak campaign for the Foxes, and Monday was about as dark as it’s got all season. Leicester were 4-0 down by the time Harvey Barnes got on the scoresheet, and their eventual 5-3 defeat at Fulham flattered them.

To be fair, what can you do when Willian’s in that sort of mood?

Nevertheless, the situation at the bottom now looks deeply concerning for Dean Smith, whose side take on top-four hopefuls Liverpool and Newcastle in their next two outings. Should they fail to get anything from these encounters, their fate could already be sealed by the time they face West Ham on the final day.
