Paris Saint-Germain have announced via an official communiqué the contract extension of Zoumana Camara as the head coach of the U19 team for an additional season. The highly-rated youth coach will stay at the club until at least 30th June 2024.
Having served as a defender for Paris Saint-Germain from 2007 to 2015, Zoumana Camara transitioned into coaching after retiring from his playing career. He initially took on the role of assistant coach for the first team.
Since 2021, Camara has held the position of head coach for the club’s U19 team. It was reported that the coach could have been near a departure, having been shortlisted for the then-vacant vacant Brest managerial role alongside Red Star manager Habib Beye – before Éric Roy ultimately took up the post.
This season, under Zoumana Camara’s side secured the top spot in the Youth League group stage. Although they were defeated in the penalty shootout in the round of 16 against Dortmund, the Parisian U19 players remain in contention for the national championship title.
“We are delighted to continue the journey with Zoumana Camara. Since taking charge of our U19 team, he has successfully imparted his knowledge and top-level experience to our young players. His work, along with that of his staff, has contributed to the growth of talents in our Youth Academy. We are convinced that he will continue to nurture their progress, both individually and collectively, molding them into elite footballers,” explained Luca Cattani, Director of Football Academy.
“I am thrilled to extend my contract for an additional season and continue the work we have been doing with the U19 team for the past two years. Leading the second team of the club is a genuine responsibility to me. We have highly talented players within our Youth Academy. My objective is to ensure their development and guide them to reach the highest possible level while continuing to enhance my experience and coaching skills,” added Zoumana Camara.
