L’Équipe are reporting that Alban Lafont (24) is set to be stripped of the FC Nantes captaincy. Samuel Moutoussamy is set to captian Les Canaris against FC Toulouse on Sunday.
Antoine Kombouaré was sacked as Nantes manager earlier this week after a poor run of form that leaves them in the relegation zone with just four games to go. Pierre Arisouy has replaced the former Paris Saint-Germain manager, who guided Les Canaris to back-to-back Coupe de France finals.
Aristouy hasn’t been in the post long, but he is already set to make a big decision. Lafont was Kombouaré’s captain, but the armband looks set to go to Moutoussamy. Lafton’s form has deserted him in recent weeks, and the Frenchman looks set to move on from the club this season.
Within this context, Moutoussamy, one of Nantes’ most consistent performers this season, looks set to take the armband. The midfielder joined Aristouy during the pre-match press conference, and the latter spoke highly of the former. Asked why it was Moutousammy that was appearing alongside him, Aristouy replied: “Because he is the player I’ve known the longest. There is a symbolic reason. The other reason is that he incarnates, through his mindset, what I expect from every player.”
