Tottenham Hotspur’s Hugo Lloris (36) is set to leave the North London club after eleven years between the sticks, according to a report from L’Equipe. The Nice youth product is currently sidelined until the end of the season after sustaining a torn tendon during Tottenham’s 6-1 humbling away at Newcastle. The 36-year-old may have played his 447th and final game with Spurs on that day. Le Parisien confirmed last week that the former France captain had received a lucrative offer from Saudi Arabia. Lloris is tied with Tottenham until 2024, but L’Équipe add that the Premier League side will allow him to consider his options.
The outlet reports that Lloris was mentally exhausted in the aftermath of the 2022 World Cup. Former Spurs coach Antonio Conte reportedly asked Lloris to resume training on December 24th, only six days after France’s defeat to Argentina in the final. Lloris allegedly has no intention of retiring, but his desire to change clubs this summer appears to be definitive one. This may benefit Spurs as the North Londoners are in the market for a young goalkeeper. It remains to be seen whether Lloris will be lured by the riches of Saudi Arabia or try a different challenge in the United States or in Europe. A return to Ligue 1 is not out of the question.
