Marseille predicted XI v Lille: Dimitri Payet set to start in what could be final professional game

Dimitri Payet looks set to start for Olympique de Marseille tonight as they come up against Lille OSC. Les Phocéens are now guaranteed of their Champions League qualification for next season, although they will be hoping to leapfrog RC Lens into second, which would see them advance directly to the group stages of the competition.

The match could be Payet’s last in professional football. The former France international has a contract with Marseille that runs until 2024, but as previously reported by L’Équipe, there is a possibility that he will retire at the end of the current campaign. A ban for a slap on Lens’ assistant coach comes into effect after Saturday’s game, and he won’t be able to feature again this season.

He looks set to be joined in attack by Alexis Sánchez and Cenzig Ünder. Amine Harit and Azzedine Ounahi remain the only absentees for Marseille, whilst Chancel Mbemba could return in defence.

Marseille likely XI v Lille

Pau Lopez – Sead Kolasinac, Samuel Gigot, Chancel Mbemba – Jonathan Clauss, Jordan Veretout, Valentin Rongier, Issa Kaboré – Dimitri Payet, Alexis Sánchez, Cenzig Ünder.
