Marseille’s Dimitri Payet and Nuno Tavares sidelined by manager over attitude

Has Dimitri Payet already played his final game for Marseille? With a three-match suspension set to begin next week, the veteran attacking midfielder has been sidelined by manager Igor Tudor ahead of tonight’s match against Lille, according to RMC Sport.

The former French international had been handed the ban by the league authorities after slapping Lens assistant coach Yannick Cahuzac in the defeat to their Champions League spot rivals. Now, as Les Phocéens fly out to the north of France again, they will be without both Payet and Nuno Tavares.

According to RMC, Tudor was unhappy with the pair’s attitude in training this week. In Tavares’ case, the Arsenal loanee’s alleged attitude problems and clashes with the Croatian have been going on for several weeks, and have culminated in the left-back being sidelined from tonight’s squad.

Amid reports of a possible retirement this summer, Payet’s absence for tonight’s match may signal an end to the 36-year-old’s playing days, with a conversion to management now on the cards.
