RMC via AFP report this afternoon that former Nice sporting director Julien Fournier has been questioned by the authorities as part of the investigation into racist remarks allegedly made by the team’s manager last season, Christophe Galtier.
An email attributed to Fournier dating from last year surfaced last month, and accuses Galtier – now at Paris Saint-Germain – of making discriminatory comments about the ethnic and religious make-up of the team. The contents of the email were first revealed by journalist Romain Molina, and then shortly after by RMC as well. Galtier has denied the accusations and launched legal action for libel, as well as the death threats he was subjected to following the reports.
A preliminary investigation was opened by Police in Nice over potential instances of discrimination, which has seen several players and head coach Didier Digard (who was in charge of the reserves last year) also questioned. Club president Jean-Pierre Rivère has also spoken to investigators. According to AFP, Galtier himself has not been questioned yet.
Fournier, who also left the club this summer, has himself indicated that his hearing with investigators took place “a few days ago”.
