In the aftermath of Real Madrid’s defeat against Valencia on Sunday evening, PSG forward Kylian Mbappé has come out in support of Vinicius Jr. who was once again subject to racial abuse from opposition fans. The Brazilian forward has been the victim of racial slurs and abuse several times from opposition fans within the past 6 months.
Reposting Vinicius Jr.’s Instagram post, in which he spoke on the continuous racial abuse, onto his own Instagram story, Mbappé issued his support to the Brazilian: “You are not alone. We are with you and we support you“. After being the target of racial abuse himself following France’s Euro 2020 exit, the matter is a subject Mbappé is clearly outspoken on. He pledged his support for Inter Milan striker Romelu Lukaku after he was subject to similar abuse in April.
Vinícius himself has accused the league authorities of not taking appropriate action against these incidents, explaining that racism is “normal” in La Liga. In his post-match press conference, his manager Carlo Ancelotti also lamented the frequent abuse suffered by his winger.
