Having been granted the day off after their win against Auxerre on Sunday evening, the Paris Saint-Germain squad were back in training for a light recovery session, building up to their trip to Strasbourg next Saturday.
According to L’Équipe, there several notable absentees at the Camp des Loges on Tuesday, with Kylian Mbappe and Lionel Messi missing for unknown reasons. Marco Verratti, who has been struggling with a knee injury of late but was nevertheless included in the squad last weekend, was also absent. Fabián Ruiz and Hugo Ekitike were sidelined due to injury as well.
L’Équipe add that it is not uncommon for certain starters to start training again later on in the week, not least when there is a full 6 days between matches. Several players from the youth academy, though, were drafted in for today’s training session.
The 2-1 win over Auxerre, which all but secured a record-breaking 11th league title for PSG, notably saw an early double from Mbappé, taking him to 28 for the season and bringing him closer to this season’s top scorer award. Messi also chipped in with an assist, taking his overall tally for the league season to 16, more than anyone across Ligue 1.
