In the wake of Blanc’s dismissal, OL boss and Eagle Football Holdings chief John Textor held talks with former Chelsea head coach Graham Potter, 2022 Europa League winner with Eintracht Frankfurt manager Oliver Glasner and current Red Star boss Habib Beye. All three of them declined the opportunity to coach the struggling Lyon side. Italian manager Gennaro Gattuso reportedly agreed to pursue his coaching career at Lyon, but Textor eventually changed his mind over appointing the talismanic AC Milan midfielder.
In the end, another 2006 World Cup winner with Italy is set to become Lyon manager with Grosso. The appointment of the former right-back, who played two years for Les Gones from 2007 and 2009, is unanimously agreed upon by Lyon’s recruitment cell, L’Equipe understands. Grosso is expected to put pen to paper over a two-year deal as early as tomorrow afternoon. The Italian manager, who achieved a Serie A promotion with Frosinone, will attend Lyon’s game against promoted Ligue 1 side Le Havre on Sunday from the Groupama Stadium stands. A triumvirate composed of Jérémie Bréchet, Jean-François Vuillez and Sonny Anderson will oversee Les Gones against Le Havre.
Lyon sit bottom of the league after losing three of their four opening games.
