Premier League fixtures today – your guide to Sunday’s games

With European football on the horizon, Sunday will soon be chock-a-block with Premier League action.

Europa League and Europa Conference League teams are about to embark on the dreaded Thursday-Sunday merry-go-round, meaning Liverpool, Brighton & Hove Albion, West Ham United and Aston Villa will be Sunday regulars from now on.

However, this weekend, as we all unanimously celebrate the end of the international break, we only have two Premier League fixtures on Sunday, both of which have a lot riding on them already.

Here is your guide to Sunday’s matches.

It’s fair to say Chelsea‘s start to the season has been a disaster. Given the money spent and the general optimism that surrounded Stamford Bridge at the beginning of the campaign, the Blues have been massively underwhelming on the pitch.

Four points from as many games is not the return Mauricio Pochettino would have hoped for before the season began, and it looks as if Chelsea’s latest influx of world class talent may not prove a quick fix.

Bournemouth have not enjoyed a particularly strong start to life under their new coach either. Andoni Iraola is still looking for his first Premier League win as a late Brentford equaliser before the international break consigned the Cherries to just two points from four games.

While Chelsea will travel to the south coast as clear favourites, it would not be surprising to see Bournemouth come away from this game with something.

Arsenal have not fared well on recent trips to Goodison Park. The Gunners have not won away at Everton since October 2017, having lost four of their last five visits. That must surely come to an end this Sunday.

Everton are already in crisis after an appalling start to the campaign. The Toffees secured their first point in the league with a 2-2 draw away at Sheffield United just before the international break, having lost to Fulham, Aston Villa and Wolverhampton Wanderers previously.

A late 2-1 win against bottom of League Two Doncaster Rovers in the Carabao Cup provided some brief respite, but Sean Dyche must be fearing the worst this weekend.

In contrast, Arsenal will be feeling incredibly confident after a dramatic late victory against Manchester United last time out put them fifth on ten points from four matches. While the Gunners haven’t been at their blistering best, they have still been creating plenty of scoring opportunities, with Bukayo Saka, Martin Odegaard and Gabriel Martinelli still looking sharp.

Despite their recent hoodoo at Goodison Park, it should prove a straightforward afternoon for Mikel Arteta against the side he played for over a six-year period.
