Roma boss Jose Mourinho had asked for some whistles from the Inter executives before the game involving the two sides yesterday.
The Giallorossi took a 1-0 loss yesterday, thanks to a goal from Marcus Thuram, who found the back of the net late in the tie to keep his impressive form in the Serie A going. But the day was going to be all about Romelu Lukaku, who was returning to the club and San Siro.
The Belgian was handed a noisy welcome, as Inter fans carried whistles inside the San Siro and whistled at the striker as soon as he exited the team bus and stepped foot onto the pitch. He had a poor game but his touches were also whistled.
Corriere della Sera state (via TMW) that when Mourinho was watching the game from the press gallery, he had an interaction with the Inter executives and he asked: “Do you have any whistles you can lend me? It could be useful to me”.
What Mourinho meant isn’t known, but the Portuguese was suspended from managing the game from the bench during the game and that is why he was watching it from the press area.
