Thomas Tuchel has provided the latest team news from his squad before Bayern Munich take on third division side FC Saarbrücken in the DFB Pokal second round.
First team regulars may be rested for this fixture as Tuchel will have one eye on Der Klassiker derby against his former side Borussia Dortmund on Saturday.
Some changes may be forced though as further injuries and illnesses have hit the squad recently.
“Noussair Mazraoui is poorly, Jamal Musiala was ill yesterday. We also need to check over Kingsley Coman, who twisted his ankle in the last match. These are the things we’re considering. It’s a very important match tomorrow. If we want to get to Berlin, we have to perform tomorrow, so it’s a final,” said Tuchel.
As well as the injury issues Bayern have had to deal with, Bayern have had a couple of boosts of returning players which Tuchel has provided an update on.
“It’s looking quite good with Leon Goretzka – he could be in the squad. For Dayot Upamecano and Raphael Guerreiro it’s still too early. Serge Gnabry is doing well after the illness. We expect he’ll be able to travel.”
Manuel Neuer recently returned to the Bayern Munich starting eleven after returning from a fractured leg injury in which he was out for over 300 days. Tuchel has confirmed that he will also start tomorrow’s game in order to gain further match fitness.
The match which is scheduled to kick off at 7:45 on Wednesday may be at risk of postponement due to heavy rainfall over the past couple of days and a pitch inspection is set to take place tomorrow.
“The plans have been in place for a long time. Travel is on matchday. If it is postponed, it might be that we don’t fly at all. There should be a pitch inspection today and tomorrow. We expect it to be played,” said Tuchel.
“The decision isn’t in our hands. For me it’s more about the travelling, which would be more tiring than the game itself. I hope there are normal conditions tomorrow if it does go ahead.”
