Roma defender Chris Smalling now potentially finds his future in doubt, amidst a raft of injury and fitness issues.
Smalling has been unavailable for Roma for a while now, leaving Jose Mourinho without a vital player at the back. He has only made three appearances this season.
Il Messaggero state (via TMW) that question marks remain over Smalling’s muscle injury. On Tuesday evening, the Englishman returned from London after having visited a trusted orthopedist. But a problem with his tendon still exists and because of that, he is not able to train, let alone return to action for Mourinho’s side.
He will miss the games against Lecce, Slavia Praha and rivals Lazio. What happens after that is also unknown but it seems likely that Roma will dip into the January transfer window for a new defender and there is also a possibility that Smalling himself could be moved on in two months, with the Englishman’s future now uncertain.
