According to L’Équipe, Warren Zaïre-Emery (17) will not play again in 2023 following an ankle injury he sustained during France’s 14-0 victory against Gibraltar in EURO 2024 qualifying. On a memorable night for the PSG midfielder, Zaïre-Emery’s Les Bleus debut ended prematurely after he sustained an injury in the 16th minute.
The moment would be bittersweet for the 17-year-old as he scored his first France goal but was injured in the process following a reckless challenge from Gibraltar’s Ethan Santos. After being assessed by France’s doctor, Franck Le Gall, the France international will return to PSG on Sunday.
Initial scans following the injury have shown that Zaïre-Emery has suffered a serious ankle sprain which should keep him out of action for club and country until 2024. However, there were some positives for the young midfielder as scans revealed that he has not suffered a fracture which could have left him on the sidelines even longer.
